ABOUT INSPECTION SERVICES
As a member of the Development Services Department, the Inspection Services Division is responsible for plan review and inspection of all construction, issuance of construction permits, and inspection of all public developments within the City of Merced.
The Inspection Services Division ensures compliance with federal, state and local laws, as well as the municipal codes regulating the design, construction, material standards, intended use and occupancy, locations, and maintenance of structures. The objective is to provide minimum standards to safeguard life, health, property, and the public welfare, while providing the highest level of customer service possible. Inspection of possible violations of these laws and codes are also performed when requested by other agencies, other city departments, or when the general public files an inquiry.
Inspection Services is also responsible for compliance with special architectural, landscaping, or sign conditions required by the City Council, state, local law or various City Commissions. Being part of Development Services One-Stop Shop Permit Processing Center has enhanced ability to provide customer service.

ALL PLUMBING CONTRACTORS COMPLETING
RIGHT-OF-WAY PROJECTS
WITHIN THE CITY OF MERCED
Effective July 1, 2010, all Plumbing Contractors working in the City of Merced Right-Of-Way will be REQUIRED to hold a CLASS A or C-12 Contractor’s License issued by the Contractor’s State Licensing Board (CSLB).
Failure to possess a Class A or C-12 license when working in the City right-of-way may result in stoppage of the project, voiding of the permit, additional fees for working without the proper license and a referral to the CSLB Statewide Investigative Fraud Team (SWIFT).

The City of Merced Inspection Services Divison now accepts ELECTRONIC SUBMITTALS. Please make sure that your plans sets, permit applications and any calculations are in PDF format.
Currently, we are requiring that you provide us with one hard-copy set of plans for Planning Department review. You can email your submittal to :

You will receive a confirmation email that your submittal has been received and will be processed once the appropriate plan review fee has been paid.

THE "VOICEPERMITS" INTERACTIVE VOICE RESPONSE SYSTEM IS USED FOR SCHEDULING BUILDING, FIRE OR PUBLIC WORKS INSPECTIONS FOR THE CITY OF MERCED . WHEN CALLING FOR AN INSPECTION, YOU MUST CALL OUR INSPECTION “IVR” SYSTEM. THE CITY OF MERCED INSPECTION IVR NUMBER IS 209-723-2489.
IN ORDER TO RECEIVE AN INSPECTION FOR THE SAME DAY, YOU MUST CALL THE IVR PRIOR TO 6:30 A.M. THE SAME DAY OF THE INSPECTION. ALL CALLS RECEIVED AFTER 6:30 A.M. WILL BE SCHEDULED THE FOLLOWING WORK DAY.
INSPECTIONS ARE AVAILABLE MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, 8 A.M. - 4 P.M., EXCEPT HOLIDAYS.
PLEASE USE A REGULAR TELEPHONE WHEN CALLING IN FOR YOUR INSPECTION. CELLULAR AND MOBILE TELEPHONES MAY NOT BE COMPLETELY UNDERSTOOD BY THE IVR SYSTEM.
