EARTH DAY

Join us on April 18 to celebrate our planet.  We will learn about why Earth Day is so important, decorate flower pots, plant flowers, play games and much more!
Dates/Times: April 18 at 5:15PM
Location: Civic Center, 678 W. 18th Street
Cost: $7 per person
Pre-Registration is required.  Registration deadline: April 15



MARTIAL ARTS INSTRUCTION

Uechi Ryu Karate (Ages 6 & up)
Uechi Ryu karate is a traditional Okinawan martial art with roots in Southern Chinese Kung Fu.  With over 25 years of Martial Arts experience, Sensei Scott Lemberger emphasizes practical self defense combined with philosophical tenets of honesty, integrity, discipline and respect.
Cost: $45/month
Dates: Mondays and Thursdays
I (ages 6-12): 5:30-6:30pm
II (ages 13 & up): 6:45-8:00pm
Location: Rossotti Ed-Zoo-Cation Center
 
     




Danzan Ryu Jujitsu (Ages 18 & up)

Danzan Ryu Jujitsu is an ancient and extremely effective martial art: the mother art of many modern martial disciplines and sports. It includes a comprehensive array of techniques such as strikes, throws, joint locks and breaks, escapes from holds, use of and defense against weaponry (both ancient and modern).

Jujitsu relies not on the strength and size of the practitioner, but rather on a sense of timing and distance and the ability to perform the technique smoothly and by reflex. This ancient art is physically demanding.

Days/Times: Mondays & Wednesdays 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Session Dates: Ongoing, Adults Only
Instructor: Jeff Doyle (2nd degree blackbelt)
Fee: $35/ 6 week session
Location: Golden Valley High School
Wrestling Room, 2121 E. Childs Ave.









TANGO

Let's dance!  The City of Merced’s Office of Recreation will be offering a 4-week Tango class on Thursdays, beginning on April 4. This is a BEGINNERS class. No prior dance experience needed.  Tango is a dance of passion and seduction. You will learn to dance swivels and lunges. The class will be taught by Glenn and Leanne Rozman in the ballroom at the Sr. Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. Merced.
Dates/Times: Thursdays, April 4-25                     
                     7-8PM Dance Lesson
                     8-9PM Dance party/Practice
Location: Senior Community Center Ballroom
Cost: $16 or $5 per lesson

EAST COAST SWING

When Americans talk about the Swing, they mean the East Coast Swing.  Sometimes called the American Swing, the Jitterbug or Jive, this dance is done to all kinds of music and a wide variety of tempos.  There is no wrong way to do the Swing.  From Rock Around the Clock to Boogie Woogie to Red Solo Cup, Americans have modified and improvised this dance to fit their favorite music.

Dates/Times: Thursdays, March 7-28
                     7-8PM Dance Lesson
                     8-9PM Dance party/Practice
Location: Senior Community Center Ballroom
Cost: $16 or $5 per lesson

SOCIAL DANCE

There is a Social Dance held the fourth Sunday of every month from 2-5PM at the Senior Community Center.  Tickets at the door are $8.  Open to everyone 18 years and older. 

HUNTER SAFETY CLASS

Hunter Safety and Range Instruction
The Hunter Safety Course includes the basic 10 hour minimum California Departmnet of Fish and Game course, which cover the mandatory areas of hunter safety (3 hours), principles of conservation (1 hour) and sportsmanship and ethics (2 hours). There will be hands on instruction and it will include live fire at an out door range. Instructor Mark Akers brings 16 years of hunter safety instruction to the program. Participants must be prepared for the weather on the day of the live fire portion of the class. Pre-Registration is required.

Dates/Times: 3/23 & 3/24, 4/27 & 4/28, 6/1 & 6/2, 7/20 & 7/21, 8/24 & 8/25, 9/28 & 9/29, 10/26 & 10/27, 11/16 & 11/17
