The City of Merced Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) provides disposal services to haulers of domestic waste, specifically, waste from residential septic tanks and chemical toilets. Septic Haulers bringing waste to the WWTF Septic Receiving Station are required to have permits with Merced County and the City of Merced prior to discharge at the facility.

Per Merced Municipal Code Title 15 - Public Service, Division I - Sewer System, Chapter 15.12 - Service Charges, 15.12.170 states: "For the privilege of using the city's waste water treatment plant, haulers of septic discharges resulting from the cleaning and emptying of septic sewer tanks and chemical toilets, shall be charged the rates and charges which shall be based on the volume in terms of gallons discharged into the waste water treatment plant as set forth below:

The director of public works operations, subject to the approval of the city manager, is hereby authorized to establish and implement such administrative rules and regulations necessary to carry out the septic hauler discharge program within the wastewater treatment plant facilities in the best interest of the city."
