Home MenuPublic Safety Needs
Nothing is more important to us than your public safety. That's why it is so important that we continue to keep you informed about our efforts to improve public safety for all residents. Your views are important to us.
That's why we commissioned a community survey to ask our residents how they feel about safety in Merced. That survey shows that Merced residents continue to be concerned about crime, poverty and homelessness. Nearly 50% of residents believe that local parks are unsafe at night, and 62% believe that crime in general has increased over the last two years.
Providing effective rapid response to 9-1-1 emergencies, retaining experienced police officers who know our community, and preventing gang activity are only some of the many services that we must not only maintain, but enhance. But to achieve these outcomes, we must give our police officers, firefighters, and other public safety staff the Emergency Operation facilities, 9-1-1 technology, and dispatch equipment they need to keep us safe.
We want to continue to hear from the public YOUR preferred public safety outcomes. Priorities identified by residents include:
- Providing rapid responses to neighborhood fires
- Retaining qualified police officers
- Preventing gang activity in the City
- Protecting and maintaining 9-1-1 emergency response times
- Addressing homelessness
- Maintaining neighborhood-based policing to make areas surrounding our schools and parks safer
The City would like to hear more from YOU. The City is committed to continuing to reflect YOUR priorities so our residents and people doing business in the City have confidence that we are decisively and effectively addressing these issues.
Please join the conversation TODAY. Tell us what is important to you by completing a Community Feedback Survey (forthcoming).
