Be informed about the reality of law enforcement In our community. Build trust based relationships with the men and women of the Merced Police Department. Participate in the next session of the citizens police academy. Do you want to learn about the MPD’s officers, training, use of force, patrol procedures, and internal investigations? Are you interested in doing a ride along with an officer or going to the MPD firing range and much more?
Topics include: recruitment and training of officers, communication center, crime analysis, patrol procedures, investigations, internal affairs, tactical communication, force continuum, use of force, gang violence suppression unit, firearms, bomb team, K9, critical incident response, code enforcement, disruptive area response team, SWAT, animal control, traffic, parking, drones, crime scene response, along with other topics.
The Academy starts October 2, 2024 and runs from 6pm to 9pm each Wednesday night. Schedule changes due to holidays will be discussed on the first night. The Academy is a 10 week program.
